En neumática la válvula es el dispositivo que intercepta y distribuye el aire comprimido o regula su caudal. Se pueden agrupar en tres familias: - válvulas de interceptación: bloquean o cambian el sentido del aire comprimido en base a las necesidades (ejem. ver elementos lógicos OR o AND). - válvulas de regulación: varían el flujo del aire comprimido en base a las necesidades regulando presión y/o caudal. (ejem. Ver los reguladores de flujo). - válvulas de distribución: desvían el flujo del aire comprimido sin variar la presión ni el caudal. Las válvulas de distribución están compuestas de dos partes: la operativa de distribución del aire (el cuerpo de válvula), y la de mando (el operador) que acciona la primera y hace de transmisión entre el utilizador y el dispositivo neumático comandado (un cilindro por ejemplo).
